knee socks

So, it's been a while. After what felt like the longest and most stressful week of my life, is two weeks of (hopefully) utter bliss and I cannot wait. Yesterday marked the first of what I hope are many adventures to come during this break. So, let's let the good times roll.

The day begun in one of my favourite areas: Gastown. There's just something about a good brick wall, and Gastown has plenty.

First stop was one of my favourite coffee shops near the area, Coffeebar! They have the best matcha latte and tiramisu, I highly recommend. Anyways, after enjoying a good meal with good friends (and attempting to take nice candid photos), we headed on our way.

Occasionally, actually candid photos turn out alright. Thankfully, this was one of them.

With the weather warming up, I took the chance to bring out my black overalls that have been collecting dust in my closet due to the cold winter season. As you can tell by either my previous blog posts or instagram outfits, colour isn't really my forte. I stuck to a classic all-black outfit, by pairing them with a striped shirt, tights, knee-high socks, and low-cut Doc knock-offs.

Was this embarrassing to take as I was standing in the middle of a sidewalk? The answer: incredibly.

Our next stop was a tourist attraction that I surprisingly had never heard of before: Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden. I spent all night googling nice attractions in Vancouver, and all the results included this little gem here, and let me say: I was not disappointed.

Inside the pristine white walls is the most peaceful, serene garden I've ever been to. It's not extremely large, but the atmosphere is so calming it's amazing. Sadly, I didn't get to spend a lot of time here since we arrived kind of late, but it was well worth the walk.

Even though my outfit might not match the essence of the garden, I did manage to take some nice pictures of it. I do find it a bit tough to shoot with the blazing sun out, but every once in a while, when you capture it in just the right angle, it works. Really well.

I try to come off as dream-like, or deep. Instead I look like I'm throwing shade or giving a death glare. Sigh.

The garden also had the cutest little animals! Look at the adorable tiny turtle, and the colourful koi fish! That picture really does look more like a water colour painting than a quick pic from my iPhone.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. What better picture to end off this garden than the little portal that led us into it.

Our last and final stop: Science World / Sea wall! It wasn't too far from the Garden and we just needed a little break before heading home, and like a typical Vancouverite, we couldn't resist taking pictures in front of our spherical treasure.

I have been on the lookout for flat shoes that give me both the height and the edge that black ankle booties do, minus the pain (after realizing that it hurt my feet to walk on flat land without shoes on, I realized I needed to take a break from heels). It was quite the struggle until one day I walked into Topshop and a bright light shun from above and led me to these babies. I can honestly say that they have been my go-to shoes ever since. They really go with everything and give off an edgy, laidback, and in my opinion, British feel to any outfit I wear. Plus I still get some height which is fantastic for a 5'4 person like me.

My favourite place to take pictures by Science World is right on the dock where all the canoes are. Yes, it's a bit risky since it's right by the water and it's quite shake-y, but it gets the best view. As long as you have good balance, it's definitely worth it.
